New Patient Experience
What Can I expect?
At Hartwell, we believe first impressions last. That’s why we have a dedicated co-ordinator to make sure you have the best experience and care possible as a new patient.

What to Expect at My First Appointment:
What happens during my first exam?
You’ll be welcomed by our friendly patient coordinator, who will discuss your dental history, treatment goals, and any concerns or questions. This helps our team prepare a personalised care experience.
How long does the comprehensive exam appointment take?
The exam typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. If the dentist needs more time for a detailed second consult, an extra 30 minutes is scheduled at no extra charge.
What is included in my exam?
Your appointment will include:
- X-rays to assess teeth and bone health
- Thorough inspection of all your teeth
- Oral cancer screening
- Gum health check
- Airway evaluation
Why is the exam so detailed?
Our goal is prevention and complete oral health. We focus on understanding your overall health as well as your dental needs, and the thorough exam helps us plan the most effective, personalised care for you.
Will I have time to ask questions?
Yes, absolutely. We encourage you to share any questions or let Floyd know of specific concerns or preferences before and during your visit.
What happens after the exam?
Your dentist will discuss their findings, suggest preventive care and treatment options, and answer questions. Our patient co-ordinator will continue to support and guide you between appointments and be your main point of contact.
Do you offer anything special for new patients?
Yes, please ask our patient co-ordinator about our partner referral program and how it can benefit you.
What if I have health conditions or past dental treatments?
Our patient co-ordinator will ask about relevant medical history and previous dental work to ensure the dentist has all the information needed for safe, effective care.
